Michigan Basketball Mourns the Loss of Former Point Guard Darius Morris

A Heartbreaking Loss

The Michigan basketball community is in mourning today following the news of the passing of former point guard Darius Morris. Morris, who spent two seasons with the Wolverines from 2010-12, was a key member of the team that helped lay the foundation for Michigan's subsequent success under coach John Beilein.

A Leader on and Off the Court

Morris was a four-star recruit out of Los Angeles who quickly became a leader for the Wolverines. In his sophomore season, he led the Big Ten in assists and set a school record for assists in a single game. Morris's leadership and playmaking ability helped Michigan reach the NCAA Tournament in both of his seasons in Ann Arbor.

Morris was also a valuable member of the Los Angeles Lakers, where he spent part of the 2011-12 season. He averaged 3.3 points and 2.2 assists in 132 career games with the Lakers.

Morris's passing is a tragic loss for the Michigan basketball community. He was a talented player and a beloved teammate who will be deeply missed.
